Leather & chrome cantilever easy arm chair, 1970s (SOLD)
An early 20th century designed lounge chair inspired by Marcel Breuer featuring a cantilever chrome and tan leather lounge chair.
Marcel Breuer was one of the key architects and designers of the 20th century and one of the most influential exponents of modernist design having both studied and taught at the Bauhaus school of design. He is credited with creating the first chrome tube chair, The Wassily Chair, in 1925 using the new manufacturing techniques and materials available at the time. From there he specialized in his now famous range of cantilever chair designs which have become icons of 20th century design. These areĀ such chairs that uses saddle leather set within a cantilever tubular chrome frame to create a chair with an outstanding aesthetic and that is also supremely comfortable.
The set is presented in very good vintage condition with marks and patina to the leather, as shown, here and there commensurate with age that actually adds to the overall appeal. The chrome is also in very good condition with no major marks, or rust pitting to speak of. All in all a beautiful and iconic set that would be equally at home in a reception room, living room, conservatory or bedroom setting.
